Have you ever had a gear wear down or otherwise become non-functional? For older machines, this can be devastating; the original manufacturer may no longer make replacement parts, or replacement parts may be unavailable, but the machine won’t be able to run without that crucial gear in place.
Rather than replacing the entire machine, you can use the process of reverse engineering to create a new gear that, for all intents and purposes, functions just like the old one. In fact, you don’t even need a full gear to do it–even a partial gear may be enough to give us what we need to begin the reverse engineering process.
Scanning and Re-creation
First, our engineers inspect your gear or gear fragment. Using current knowledge of modern gears, and structural details about the gear fragment you supplied, we create a full 3D model of what the gear should look like when it’s complete. At this point, our engineers make any tweaks and adjustments necessary to ensure the model’s accuracy and fit with the intended system.
Production
After that model is complete, we ask you to review the drawings provide any additional performance requirements or features you may need, then approve the drawings for your application. Once we have the approved drawings, we produce the gear much like any other gear. We manufacture a blank, cut the teeth hand make sure everything is matches the model we have agreed upon. In reverse engineering, precision is especially important; any deviation from the original design could interfere with your machine’s typical function, causing even further damage to your machine.
